Columbus Day should definitely be replaced by a more fitting holiday for the real founders of the Americas, the Native Americans. The natives were forced out of their own land by explorers like Columbus who abused, raped, and took advantage of the natives and their resources. Celebrating this horrid treatment is offensive and appalling towards the Native American people and badly represents the values of our country. We should acknowledge the Natives for their strength and endurance through their difficult times of oppression and disrespect inflicted on them by our founders to somewhat compensate for their trespasses. Although these mistakes were made long ago, we should always strive to make up for past wrongs by establishing peace, equality, and appreciation towards all who were oppressed throughout the course of our history including Native, Black, and Latino Americans.
